I continue to be drawn into wondering what "on earth" God is up to. If the church is called to be 'the body of Christ,' then shouldn't we look to Jesus to understand what we should be doing and the manner thereof? Lately I've been struck by the biblical comments of binding and losing on earth and the Lord's prayer–thy kingdom come on earth...as it is in heaven.
I've also been thinking about privilege–what do theologians privilege and why? It seems to me that theologians privilege ontology and the quest for truth at the expense of sapiential knowledge, love and the witness of Scripture. In some way, in American culture today, the church finds itself, and its Scripture, at the margins. If nothing else, the simple fact that people who attend worship on Sunday are only in worship for an hour a week (in the Protestant tradition) seems to signify that worship is at the margin. Maybe there should be consideration for God's preferential option for the worshipping community.
